Monasterevin is an angler's paradise. The local
stretches of the River Barrow and the Barrow Line Canal
are well known for their excellent game and coarse
fishing.
As with all fishing in Ireland, no permit is required to
fish on the Canal but a permit is required for the
rivers. For salmon and sea trout a state licence is also
required. Permits can be purchased in most local shops
and all tackle shops.
The Grand Canal holds a big stock of bream, rudd, tench,
some pike and roach. Further afield, the river Liffey has
an abundant supply of all fish types. The river is a
fisherman's dream with beautiful, peaceful views all along
its 82 mile stretch to three counties. Undoubtedly the
richest of the three scenic views are through the
limestone grasslands of Kildare.
